The 8th Habit: From Effectiveness to Greatness by Stephen R. Covey

Having read the 7 habit book the curiosity to know what its sequel 8th habit could be, prompted me to search and get this book from the library. Writing a book on just one habit is a remarkable feat by the author. As a middle manager, the next step shall be to reach greatness after an effective performance. This is an ideal book, which explains with the help of anecdotes, films, and exercises the process very lucidly. The business world is very uncertain these days and survival are tough in the corporate jungle. In this scenario, whether it is feasible to follow his techniques or tips is definitely a question to ponder. Yet it can offer wisdom to swim across with ease. This book will help in strengthening your emotional quotient. Reaching self effectiveness and greatness is not enough but how to inspire others also to reach is the crux of this book. The following quote from the book illustrates the message that you can derive from this book:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frighten us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." - Marianne Williamson)

Read the book and achieve greatness, do not miss this book especially if you are in the middle management level.
