After an active life style for almost three decades I happened to sit idle for almost 6 months. I was getting bored and depressed. A relative of mine lent this book “Jaya”. I was surprised after seeing the title and wondering why the story of Mahabharata was titled thus. This curiosity got me engrossed in the book. I knew the story already but reading it from the perspective of Devdutt Pattanaik got me absolutely hooked. I re-learnt this epic from a new dimension. The narration by this mythologist Author is exceptional. This epic has been crafted beautifully in simple English making it easy to read and understand. Each chapter spans to 3 to 5 pages which makes it easy to assimilate and understand. The wonderful caricatures are befitting the epic. The Author has definitely done extensive research on this epic to make it so simple to understand. The entire epic has innumerable small stories which are well explained emphasizing on the moral code. Relishing this book to the fullest extent, I returned it to the lender and decided to own this book. This book is not just a story of Mahabharata but speaks of management principles, ethical morals and values. I pick up this book often, scan through the 108 chapters and read some stories to refresh my life lessons. This is not a story book but a book full of life lessons with intelligent explanations. Devdutt Pattanaik has wonderfully retold this epic; hence I suggest that parents and grandparents to read this book to young children below the age of 15; other children above the age of 15 and all adults must read this book at least once in their life to understand what life is all about.
