The favorite student of
Dronacharya is Arjuna. Lord Krishna addresses Arjuna as “Gudaakesa”, meaning
the one who has conquered sleep and laziness.
What are the special skills
of Arjuna that make him a special student?
One day while eating dinner
it became very dark and Arjuna found that he can eat even in darkness. The hand
reaches the mouth without any difficulty. At that moment Arjuna realizes that
by practicing the same thing he can achieve anything in life. He realized he
can shoot his target even in darkness and started to practice.
In the course of the
training Dhronacharya wants his students to aim at a bird’s head. Duryodhana
sees the tree, leaves and the bird. Yuddishtra also sees the leaves, branches
and the bird. Arjuna says he can see only the bird’s neck and nothing else.
This shows the focus of Arjuna. Our aim should be only on the spot that we want
to achieve.
Another day Dhronacharya’s
leg is caught by a crocodile underwater. He asked his students to free him from
the crocodile and save him. Arjuna concentrates and sees the crocodile inside
the water focuses and kills it.
The next training given by
Dhronacharya to his students was to kill a doll floating in the tank with their
eyes closed. Arjuna kills the doll using fifteen arrows, calculating the speed
at which the doll floated around in water.
Arjuna was also trained to
close the mouth of a dog with arrows while it barks.
Arjuna derived all these
skills only by sheer focus and practice. He vanquished his sleep/ignorance and
focused to master the skills of archery.
This is the basic instinct
required to progress and experience success….@ps
