There
is so much spoken in all the social media about rape, compassion and concern.
We all agree that the golden hour is very important. How will we know which is
the golden hour. While travelling on the road we are going with our goal to
reach our destination at the earliest. In the morning it is to reach office on
time, in the evening it is to reach home. Each one of us has multiple issues to
combat every day. Each one of us is compassionate and lovable but we may not
exhibit it all times to everyone. Certain gruesome incidents do touch our heart
and everyone with sanity would like to help and act. But they are pulled back
because of the consequence of helping. Everybody is fighting to exist ….this
world is meant for the fittest. So can we blame the people at large for any
inaction, especially in public place? No single person will be able to act
instantly in a situation when we see bleeding bodies. It is a collective
action. When I travelled 40 km in the GST road, I would see road accidents
every day. The first time I saw it I could not eat and sleep. The next day I
saw it I just swallowed the food; the third day I closed my eyes and prayed and
carried on. You may call me inhuman. But if road accidents are happening on a
daily basis …….(according to 2011 statistics 1 life is lost every three minutes
due to road accidents)….shouldn’t the authorities take steps to check the
reason and plug it. Over speeding should be punished severely. Going in the
wrong line should be curtailed. The systems of fine and penalty should have
been put in place. The authorities may lack human resources, but can recruit
retired police officers or volunteers for regulating these. We are losing the youth
in the bargain. The authorities need to
step up on these issues and make it foolproof.
Next
very gruesome which has shaken us up thoroughly is Nirbhaya. It is barbaric. It
is happening every day…age is no bar …even a girl child is not spared in India….I
am worried will India be called “a rape country” in due course. Who is the
cause for this?
I
may sound candid but the blame starts with the Parents, and then follows the
society and the media. The discrimination between a girl and a boy continues to
exist even today in many families. The boy is given many privileges and excused
many a time at home by parents. The scenario may seem to be changing but is
only in few cases and in isolated locations. Boy or girl the challenges in today’s
world are the same and its impact is also the same. God has created emotions
for both the genders—the feeling of love, sadness, and anxiety are all is the same.
There is so much of hype for the biological difference between the
genders.
Having
said this, I would like to emphasis that rape is an act of perversion. It
happens when the rapist has lost his control on his senses and many a time he
is in an inebriated or intoxicated state. Sometimes the person may not be
intoxicated but gives in to the temptation and conducts rape. It is an act to
show the supremacy over the meek and vulnerable. Poverty, suppression, and
anger on not being able to achieve ones desires; hostility, and jealousy are
some the reasons for indulging in rape. Society has an important role to play
in creating and fanning these emotions. This world is meant for the fittest;
hence these acts are here to stay. This has also been used as a tool by the
victims as a revenge tactics. The truth is never known and proving becomes difficult
unless proper evidence like the case of “Nirbhaya” emerges. Sometimes consensus
act can be concluded as rape also. The parties concerned are the best judges.
In the pretext of bringing awareness too much information is also revealed
which builds curiosity in the minds of the individual.
Now,
the question remains why the passerby did not help the “nirbhayas’ friend. I
watched this video: and became pensive.
The
points that surfaces in my mind:
Will
you have helped?
Will
I have helped …. My answer to this a big NO.
Hey,
do not get angry ….I have umpteen number of justifiable reasons for this. Does
it mean I am not touched by this episode? I have the courage to admit this
fact. Do you have it? Every person who comments or shares or reports will they
do it …the answer is: No.
When
“Vastrharana” was done to Draupathi every member in the court watched but
nobody stopped or nobody helped her. Can we conclude that all are wrong or inhuman?
Including the noble Bheeshma was a silent spectator to this gruesome act of
Dhushasana and Duryodhana. Even their parents were watching this event, or
rather hearing the cries.
I
am not trying to justify the passerby’s action on the case of Nirbhaya, but
stating it is over expectation from us. Each one is responsible and engrossed in
fulfilling his or her duty. We cannot mix up this with lack of compassion.
Recently
my Mother in law had a fall and hit her head. She was bleeding profusely. A neighbor
was in our house to enquire something. He watched my mother in law and I could
visualize he was confused. He was torn between the compassion and duty. His children
were waiting to go to school. He had to go to office…..that is a private bank,
where innumerable customers will be waiting and on the way he had to drop his
wife at the hospital where his father was being treated. As my spouse and I were
helping our mother to be taken to the hospital I gestured my visitor to move
on. He was hesitant …I said please carry on we shall manage. If needed, I said
I shall call. I saw the reluctance at his face while going. If he had given
himself to the compassion his children would have missed school, his father
will be without an attendant in the hospital, and he would not have gone to the
office on time and earned curses from the customers. The ripple action that
follows after helping is not excusable in one’s life. Does it mean he was not
compassionate?
If
a passerby had seen us I am sure they would have said “sh…shh….sh..” and
carried on. They will also fear how the bleeding started and would like to
escape the rigorous of being an eye witness. Everybody has commitments, duties
and obligations to be fulfilled which none other but only we can do it. Not
only strangers even our near kith and kin will be obliged/pinned down by their
duties. This is the world of the fittest. Everyone is busy in trying to prove
that he can succeed.
The
law must be very strict. In my opinion rapist must be hanged even if he is a
juvenile. Punishment cannot be less than that. Mercy petition should be denied.
This should be strictly adhered to by the legal systems. The crime is of that
kind.
Collectively
how do we respond to these gruesome actions of the barbaric?
The
solution to this in my opinion is: just become “mob-rescuers”.
Watch
this video to understand what I mean by “mob-rescuers”

2.
When
we witness road accidents become “mob-rescuers” and capture the defaulting
driver if identified. Similarly when we happen to hear rape, and if the victim
identifies the rapist then we should all join hands to become, “mob-rescuers”.
If
law takes too much time to dictate its verdict and if the rapist is proved let
us collectively become “mob-rescuers”….let us learn from the animal kingdom, by
watching this video and get some cue.
The victim’s trauma and fear it spreads is unimaginable……!
Defaulting
drivers causing road accidents and Rapists are “Duryodhana” of this society……there
can be only one rule for them ….”Eliminate them from this world”.
These
criminals do not deserve any mercy at all!
P.S.:
I salute all the good Samaritans who have done commendable jobs in times of
need …….but these people are very Rare to find……this article was not meant for
them.
